SFA Chapter XIV

Monterey, California

Last Meeting

On 7 March Chapter 14 held their bi-monthly rally at the London Bridge Pub in Monterey

Somehow, the membership thought it was the second Thursday of the month,

the announced meeting day on odd numbered months.

In fact, the second Thursday was -- our chapter number, the 14th! A good turn-out showed anyway.

Our next meeting will be in May, date to be announced, at the Central Texan BBQ in Castroville, California.

On January 12, the chapter had its bi-monthly stag rally at the London Bridge Pub by (Municipal) Wharf Two in Monterey.

The attendance was double that of the previous rally in October.

We intend to continue these rallies on a bi-monthly basis, with the wives and families participating in the "Spring Fling," the Independence Day Barbecue and the Christmas Party.

Due to the war, the Naval Postgraduate School has gone on Class B security which denies entry except on official business. We may in future, return to their venue by way of special identification procedures. At present, only those members retired with 20 or more years active duty or past 60 years of age with 20 years or more Reserve time, have retirement ID cards and can go aboard, and use such facilities as the PX, Bookstore, Club, etc.

Because of this, mail in future should be sent to the POC, Ted R. Castle

Please limit it important communications only, as my mail box
is small and already crowded with important advertising... .

December 8 was Chapter 14's Christmas party,

attended by some 30 members and their families.

It was a dinner party at the Double Tree Hotel in downtown Monterey, near the Old Fisherman's Wharf.

Each member brought a gift which was given by raffle. If the member thought he or she preferred the gift another guest selected, they could go to that party and swap. The losing party then could select another gift or take one that another guest had selected. It all leads to a great deal of fun and laughter, especially when there is one gift so highly prized it gets passed around multi-times. This year the most highly sought-after gift was a pair of wine glasses, engraved with the SFA insignia!
The meal was paid for by the chapter from funds earned volunteering at the Mazda Laguna Seca Race track. Anually, there are three or four auto or motorcycle races at the track, and only non-profit organizations are invited to aid as paddock-pass guards, traffic guards and such. The ownership shares its profits annually with the organizations who participate. Their entire work force is comprised of such volunteers as we are.
