Last Quarter Meeting

Garden of Eden Chapter Germany

Greetings from Stuttgart, Germany!

Chapter "V' has had another very busy season.

Our president and treasurer, Erick Nason and Scott Gunderson, were deployed to the Balkans for a couple of months, leaving the vice-president and secretary, Scoff Eaddy and Brad Adair to hold down the fort.

First, our annual Lifetime Membership drive was a complete success. We brought in 27 new Lifetime Members. Thank you for your support.

Next, we helped one of our own, MSG Derrick Halstead's 9-year old niece, Jasmine Halstead. Her father is assigned to 3rd Group at Ft Bragg, NC and she has been diagnosed with Leukemia. She is being treated at Duke Medical Center and while TriCare is covering most of her medical bills, there are quite a few other expenses her family has to deal with. 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (ABN) took up a donation for Jasmine just before Christmas and raised $900. Chapter "V" matched that $900 and sent Jasmine $1,800 to help out during the holidays.

The Special Forces Association Chapter "V" is one of the largest contributors back to the Stuttgart Military Community. Over the past 6 months, we have sponsored and donated almost $1,500 to various organizations:

Cub Scout Pack #324

Panzer Youth Services

Boblingen Elementary School

Special Operations Goff Tournament.

We also paid for a soldier of the lst Battalion to fly back to the United States for his US Citizenship Hearing.

Chapter "V' is currently in the process of selecting the recipient of the SFA, Chapter "V' Scholarship Award. Scott Eaddy, "Gunner" Gilpin and LTC Christopher Perkins are screening the final applicants and will award the $1, 500 scholarship to the deserving individual by Graduation Day at Patch High School.

Chapter "V" sponsored two major parties recently at the world famous "Garden of Eden," and as always, they were resounding successes.

March saw the Annual St. Patrick's Day Party.

Followed in May with the Annual May Day Party.

Each had over 200 attendees and helps to spread the word about all of the good things the Special Forces Association does for the community.

The May Day event also saw the changing of command of Chapter "V" Elections were held and the results are as follows:

Eric Black will replace Erick Nason as President.

"Gunner" Gilpin will take over Vice-President from Scott Eaddy

Jutta Black assumes the duties as Treasurer from Scott Gunderson.

Angela Gilpin takes the reins as Recording Secretary from Brad Adair.

We want to extend our thanks and appreciation to the outgoing council members who have worked so hard this past year to keep the Association on track. The official Change of Responsibility will be at the next Association meeting on 7 June 2000.

As always, the Garden of Eden is open Wednesday and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons, so stop by and say hello.

We thank all of the friends and comrades who have stopped by lately to share the latest stories over a cold Reutberg while passing through to parts unknown.

We look forward to seeing you again soon. Tscbuss! K
